It’s the end of a long, stressful week, maybe you’ve been more stressed than normal. Lots of jaw clenching, teeth grinding even. We’ve all had weeks like that. But now, you’re in pain. Ibuprofen? Well you may as well put a plaster on your jaw for how much it’s helping. What can you do to help? Is there anything you can do? We have the answer: M-A-S-S-A-G-E.
What’s causing your pain? It could be you’re experiencing TMJ pain. But how do you know? Do any of the following sound like you? If so, massage therapy could be what you need.
- muscular pain when chewing, swallowing, or speaking
- restricted movement, such as limitations when opening the mouth
- clicking, popping, and cracking of the jaw
- dental issues such as misaligned teeth
- pain in the neck, scalp, and shoulders
- frequent headaches
- pain and tenderness at the joint
- pain, ringing, or itchiness in the ears
- recurrent migraines
- teeth grinding
How does massage actually help with TMJ pain? Massage helps to relax the tight and overworked muscles that are causing your pain. An experienced therapist will also work other areas of your body – such as your spine, scalp, shoulders, face & neck – to address the underlying causes of your pain. Working on the areas around the temporomandibular joint as well as the joint itself will bring you great relief.
There are exercises you can do at home to help relieve your pain, but the best thing for TMJ relief is to get a professional massage. Your therapist will give you personalised exercises to help your specific issue after your session.
Our amazing massage therapist Liam specialises in functional TMJ relief. He has worked alongside an osteopath for several years and has taken a great interest in how massage can be used to keep your body working as it should, and to fix issues that seem impossible to get rid of.He’s already had some great results with Vital Balance clients, and we are taking bookings for him now! If you have been struggling with jaw pain, book in with Liam and find relief, people are already loving him.

Firstly - our Sian has now started full-time as a Vital Beauty Therapist. Sian is a fabulous therapist and we feel so lucky to have her join the Vital team. In her spare time - Sian values spending time with her family and close friends. She loves long road trips, going to concerts and spending days at the beach. She is a valuable addition to our team and I know you will join me in welcoming her to Vital Balance,
Sian has a running special of 10% off all treatments (except for current specials) so make sure you book in with her for your your beauty needs. I have it on really good authority that she does an incredible Bliss Facial so maybe you should make that your first booking!!
In late June, the Vital team made a road trip to Tauranga to take part in the beautifully informative and educational Janesce and Bestow training . As you know, this is one of our signature ranges and we are proud to stock this quality plant based range here at Vital Balance. The below blurb is taken from the Janesce website and is an insight into their philosophy which we share and support whole-heartedly.
'At Janesce, plant power and wellbeing are not trends we are following – they are movements we are leading. A holistic approach to skincare has been right at the heart of everything we have done for the last 30 years. Follow us into the future'
At Vital Balance - this is a kaupapa that we can get behind with passion and a clear vision for the future of skin therapy at Vital Balance. Supporting the skin to be the best that it can be without harsh chemicals or abrasive practices, whilst also appreciating the impact that gut health has on our skin, aligns perfectly with our vision of being the best holistic skin therapy clinic in the Waikato.. If you feel that you would like to be treating your skin from above and within, and would like some advice on this - please give us a call or book in today to get started on your journey to incredible skin.
As you were all aware we ran an AMAZING Ultraceuticals giveaway in June, which has been won by the wonderful Stacey Kaye! Stacey is a super loyal client of Vital Balance and we were so happy to her name pop up on the name randomizer!
We are also trying some new teas out this June. Our usual refreshment station at reception will be boasting some wonderful samples of Forage + Bloom's teas. The range includes Salvation - which is a peppermint, kawakawa, nettle, and dandelion root blend, and Repose - which is a chamomile, lemon balm, rooibos, and rose petal blend.
