Bringing Gentle Care Where It’s Needed Most

Bringing Gentle Care Where It’s Needed Most

Some places leave a mark on your heart that words can’t fully capture. For me, the Cancer Society Lions Lodge on Lake Road is one of those places. I first spent time there with my dad during his cancer treatment, as he travelled from Gisborne for care. Watching him rest, surrounded by quiet support and understanding, left a lasting impression. It’s a space where life slows down a little, and the focus is on presence, care, and connection.

It’s that spirit of calm and care that Jay and I want to bring with us through Vital Balance. Starting now, we will be offering wellness and massage sessions at the Lodge every Tuesday and Wednesday. These sessions aren’t about fixing or treating anything - they’re about giving space for the body and mind to soften, for breath to deepen, and for a brief moment of ease amid the challenges of treatment.

Sometimes, the smallest gestures -  a quiet pause, a gentle touch, a moment to simply rest—can mean the most. That’s what we hope to offer the people staying at the Lodge and their whānau: a chance to feel supported, grounded, and cared for, even if just for a few minutes.

For me personally, being able to do this work is also a way of honouring my dad and expressing gratitude for the care we experienced there. Life has a gentle way of bringing things full circle, and this feels like one of those moments.

If you or someone you love is staying at the Lodge, these sessions are available to you. Each one is tailored to meet the body exactly where it is that day - whether that’s a quiet moment of rest or gentle work to ease tension built over a long journey.

We feel privileged to share this space and offer our support. To book a session or learn more, call 07 855 2665 or speak with the Lodge staff during your stay. We look forward to helping your body and mind find a moment of comfort and ease when it’s needed most.
