Prioritising Wellness After Surgery | A Personal Update from Vital Balance

I’d like to start with sharing my gratitude.

To everyone who has reached out, checked in, sent kind messages, flowers, meals, fresh fruit, chocolates, wine, and support over the past few weeks, thank you. Truly. I have felt so incredibly cared for and supported during a really difficult and unexpected time, and I honestly don’t have the words to express how much it has meant to me.

As many of you know, I recently underwent emergency surgery, which has understandably brought life and work at Vital Balance to a sudden pause. It’s been physically and emotionally challenging at times, but also deeply grounding. Experiences like this are a powerful reminder of how important our health and wellbeing truly are, and how essential it is to slow down and allow the body time to heal properly.

As a massage therapist and clinic owner, I’m so used to caring for others every day through massage therapy, wellness treatments, and support. Being forced to stop has been incredibly humbling. It has reminded me that wellness is not just something we encourage for our clients at Vital Balance, it’s something we need to prioritise for ourselves too, especially during the harder seasons of life.

My Recovery and Return to Work

Right now, my focus is on recovery, rest, and listening to my body. I’ll slowly begin returning to work in an admin and support capacity as I’m able, but I won’t be back massaging for quite some time yet. While that is difficult for me to say, I know it’s what my body needs in order to heal well and return sustainably.

This experience has also deepened my appreciation for the importance of self-care, nervous system support, stress management, and taking the time to recover properly after illness or surgery.

Gratitude for the Vital Balance Team

To my incredible team, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

To Jay and Nicole, thank you both for stepping in and carrying the massage therapy side of the clinic while I’ve been away. You have both done such an incredible job looking after our clients, and it has meant the world to know they are in such talented, knowledgeable, and professional hands.

To Kerryn, thank you for everything you’ve done at the front desk and for being such an important part of Vital Balance. Your warmth, organisation, care, and support have meant so much, especially during this time. While we are so sad to see your contract come to an end, we are incredibly grateful for everything you’ve contributed to the clinic.

And lastly, to Ethyn, thank you for stepping in as “me” when I didn't even knew what day of the week it was thanks to the morphine! You held things together during one of the hardest and most vulnerable times, and I honestly don’t know what I would have done without you.

Thank You for Your Support

Thank you again to our beautiful clients and wider community for your understanding, patience, and kindness during this chapter. Your support has meant more than you know.

I’m taking things one day at a time, prioritising my wellness and recovery, and trusting that healing doesn’t need to be rushed.

I’m looking forward to slowly reconnecting with everyone again soon.

Talk soon,

Robyn

P.S. Yes, I chose a photo from healthier times. Recovery has been many things, but photogenic is not one of them 😂
